The Mercedes driving mechanism

A global view of the toothed racks inside a Mercedes Euklid 29 is shown in this movie. The keyboard of the Mercedes has been removed. When a key is depressed in a column of the keyboard, one of the gears of this column goes on the toothed rack corresponding to the entered digit. You can see the oscillating movement of the toothed racks. The disengagement mechanism (when the toothed racks come back) is at the bottom of the screen. This system is composed of an horizontal bar crossing the columns of the keyboard. At each column position, a gear is fixed on this bar with its axis perpendicular to the bar. The bar revolves around its axis in order to engage or disengage the gears with the toothed racks. The second movie allows to observe more precisely this movement.
